West Bengal lost to Manipur 2-1 in quarter-finals of the Swami Vivekananda U-20 Men’s National Football Championship at the RK Ashram Ground 1 on Friday. The match ended 1-1 at regulation time.
Tanbir Dey gave West Bengal the lead in the 57′ while Chanam Akash Meetei’s brace in 79’ and in 109’ gave Manipur the win.
Earlier, West Bengal finished on top of Group E in three-team group with four points from two matches, followed by Karnataka with three, while Odisha could only manage a single point.
West Bengal began their campaign with a narrow 2-1 victory against Karnataka at Narainpur on May 2. Tanbir Dey gave West Bengal the lead in 39′, Nirupam Gowda equalised in 65′ for Karnataka. However, OG in 84′ by Dhruv C gave West Bengal three important points.
In second match on May 6, West Bengal played a 2-2 draw with Odisha in Ground 2 at the RKM Ashrama. Odisha took the lead in the 28′ through Shankha Shekhar Hembram. West Bengal, roared back in the second half, Sahil Kar equalized in 60′ and Tanbir Dey gave the lead in 65′. However, Barial Tudu equalized in 73′ for Odisha.
